As an African American woman living and working in the United States, I, and many others I know have always felt the "tug" of what a history of oppression has done, and continues to do, to people who look like me.  The painting "Freedom For Me Too" is my attempt to visualize the internal struggles of a Black Woman who struggles to be seen as an equal in a country that views her as less than.

The black and white bars and chains in the background symbolize the history of Black Men sent to jail for decades, leaving many Black Women to carry their households alone.

The eyes and blood in the background symbolize the history of violence enacted on black people and the "viewers" who sit idly by and watch it happen.

It is my hope to bring attention to the ways Black Women still feel like visitors in their own Country and showcase that we are still beautiful, strong and resilient in spite of it.
